Pub Crawl

One thing you will notice with Aussies is that they love their alcohol. Yup, most days, especially fridays, they go straight to the pub after work to relax and unwind. Sydney is littered with pubs and whichever one you go to will be the same. Everyone is generally friendly so you can relax and feel at home.

You need to go to the bar to order your drinks. If you don’t find a distinct queue, see who’s before you and let them order first. If you’re wearing a hat, take it off when you go to the bar, that’s just the etiquette.

Unlike the Filo style of drinking which is heavy on pulutan, Aussies just drink. But there’s nothing wrong with ordering some finger foods.

Contrary to popular belief, Australian’s do not drink Fosters, it’s the Americans who do.

Following are just a few which you may want to visit.

The Fortune of War

137 George Street, The Rocks

This is Sydney’s oldest pub, established in 1828. This is in The Rocks area, just across the road from the Museum of Contemporary Arts.

Opera Bar

Sydney Opera House, Lower Concourse Level

The best bar to unwind. Watch the sunset with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the view.

Baxter’s Inn

152-156 Clarence St., Sydney

If you are more into whiskey, then this is the place for you. Although it is a whiskey bar they do serve beer as well. What’s interesting about this bar is it is not easy to find. First, follow the Google directions until you get to the address. Walk through the alleyway and you will find two bars in the courtyard. Neither of these is Baxters. Turn left and look for a dodgy looking door, more like a fire exit in the back of the building. Go through this door and go down the stairs. Open the door at the end of the stairs and voila, it’s Baxter’s. The only thing missing is the guy by the door to ask you for the password.

The Establishment

252 George Street, Sydney

This is quite popular and has a classic elegant and lively atmosphere. It is easy to get to as it is right in front of the Bridge Street station of the Light Rail. It is the first stop from Circular Quay.
